How to apply passport in Malaysia.

It's my first time applying for international passport. Haha. I am not going oversea. I want to use the passport to cross border from Sabah to Sarawak. As you call aware, to get to Sarawak, you have to cross Brunei and it is equal to prepare your passport before your entry denied at the border.

I always wonder why goverment did not build a road that does not need to cross other country. Why the hell i need a passport to travel from state to state in my own country? Its weird but it is reality.

So, what do you need to apply for passport? Simple

1. 2 photocopy of your Identification Card
2. 2 photocopy of your birth certificate... but since I am 15 (federal IC), I only need photocopy of my identifcation card.
3. 2 photo of yourself with white background. If you are wearing glasses, please remove it or else they will reject the photo.

That's it and a lot of time....

So, it take about 3 hours to complete all the processes. Nope. More than that. You really need time be able to get your passport.

I am applying mine in Immigration Department in Kota Kinabalu. Initially I wanted to apply at district immigration office but it take up to 2 weeks to be completed.

First, take number. Then wait. Then your number will be called. then you give whatever mentioned above. Then they will ask you to wait again. Your first number given will be called again later so please do not throw that number after your number were called the first time. It is a bit weird. Why don't you give another number or maybe you complete everything with one number in one counter. Nope. Maybe they have their reason.

So the second time you were called, prepare your money. You have to pay at that time. Then they will give you a receipt and ask you to take your passport 3 hours later. Huh. I thought 3 hours for everything. 3 hours for them to make your passport, the rest of the time waiting....

So total about 5-6 hours later, you will get your passport.

My wife faced a bit difficulty. Why? Because she is from Sarawak. To my surprise, no passport for sarawakian can be approved by other state even federal immigration. Seems like Sarawak is a total different country. Maybe that is why i need passport to cross the border to sarawak by car.

In the end, my wife's passport will be ready by 5 working days. That is sucks. If she was to travel the next day then how?

Throughout my experience in applying passport, I found that the system is still open for improvement. Lots of thing can be done to make it more fast. It is very confusing when you need to give your document to one counter, pay at another counter, collect passport at another counter. Confusing. And they did not put anything like flow chart or diagram at the wall to guide those first timer like me and my wife.

Anyway, I am not disappointed because I can get my passport within the same day (but not my wife). She may have different opinion towards immigration system now. hehe.

Thats all for now. Your attention are much appreciated. :)
